Dispute Resolution Center of King County
The Dispute Resolution Center of King County (DRCKC), in partnership with Bridging Cultural Gaps and Showalter Middle School is working to decrease disproportionate punitive discipline, help staff, students, and families build skills in restorative practices and conflict resolution, and center the voices of scholars and families at Showalter Middle School in Tukwila. We hold a monthly stakeholder meeting called ‘Steering Together’, where staff, administrators, families, students, and community members come together to strengthen the community and collaborate. In partnership, we provide restorative practices trainings, circles, and supports for teachers and administrators.
We have built a peer mediation program in which we train scholars in mediation in order to support peer-to-peer conflict resolution. In addition, Bridging Cultural Gaps provides language and community support to East African families in the Tukwila School District. Together we are moving towards a culture shift that prioritizes relationships and equity for families, students, and staff in the school environment.
