Community Network Council
Our organization provides training and professional development to teachers and staff of the Kent School District. We feel that many black and brown students are punished by teachers due to misunderstanding of cultural norms, and implicit bias (and fear). This purpose of this training is to decrease tensions between teachers and African American students, and to increase the chances a positive learning environment. Our organization also provides support services for students, working both in the school and after school to provide mentoring. We serve as a liaison between the student, the family, and the school – to create a positive loop of information and support. Additionally, we provide our students with supplemental education about their culture, and provide training in leadership and teamwork. We have also adapted our services since the COVID-19 pandemic to include providing food and supplies for the families of students in need.
