Walk Away City Collaborative
As African American organizers leading with racial justice, a primary focus of our work is to empower youth of color. This effort will develop positive strategies for navigating systemic racism. We are a collaborative of community leaders, who look like our youth, share similar life experiences, and have successfully overcome the obstacles created by historical and current systems of oppression that our youth face today.
Our goal is to create a healthier, thriving, resilient school culture. We will accomplish this by 1 ) Motivating the entire school to make a 6-month pledge to abstain from illegal substances, 2) Doing a thorough in-depth follow-up with 100 9th grade freshmen who have made the pledge, 3) Recruiting 20 senior upperclassmen into a paid peer-to-peer mentorship program called Positive Peer Pressure Group (3PG).
